Okay, this is a braggy post. You see, my #3 daughter, who is a junior at a small liberal arts university in Canada, just told us that she has been selected to be a TA (teaching assistant) this term–and she wasn’t even applying for the position! She’ll get paid in Canadian dollars–right now, that’s a GOOD thing.
How did she get it? Well, by being the top Spanish student at the school. Oh, so she’s a Spanish major? Yes–along with sociology. But here’s the kicker–she brought all of her Spanish credits with her when she transferred to this university and she is taking only ONE COURSE on campus in order to get a major in Spanish.
How did she get so good at Spanish? By living in a Spanish-speaking country for a while.
How did she get so many credits? By taking Spanish courses abroad–for cheap.
And then she told us that she was also selected to be an RA (resident assistant) for next fall. This means that she will get free room and board while serving as the RA in a dorm that attracts a lot of international students. Perfect!
And here’s the coolest part: she is only 18, and she is scheduled to graduate at the end of December.
Great job, T! We are so proud of you!

Maya,
Congratulations to your daughter or I should say, all your daughters. Azure and Mike speak so highly of Taeko and Tally as well as you and Tom. Thank you for taking such good care of them.
